Looking through today’s architectural magazines and books, we are lead to believe that sustainability and “green” architecture can only be achieved using ultra-modern, glass-and-steel construction or ultra-high-end homes. While this style of architecture has its association with sustainability, it is not the only way it can be achieved. As more and more consumers become educated about “green” architecture, we are finding communities of traditional styles develop, proving that consumers do not need to step out of their comfort zone. When it comes to defining what “green” building can mean for your business, knowing how environmentally-conscious your clients are, will in the long run, generate more opportunities for your company.

2008 Prism Awards

On August 23, 2008, the Gold Coast Builders Association held their 2008 Prism Awards.  At the ceremony in West Palm Beach, Florida, hundreds of awards were presented to builders, designers, and architects alike for outstanding achievement in their respective field.  Affiniti Architects received the prestigious Gold Award in Single Family Detached Architecture with a price range of $5 million and higher.

Contemporary Architecture

Early "Modern" architecture in the beginning of the 20th century followed the abstract artists of the day, such as Picasso. That formed the basis of the "white box" look that is still associated with most severe Modern architecture. Since the "Postmodern" movement, which artists and architects began in the 1970s, Florida has leaned predominantly toward Mediterranean and other eclectic styles. Today we see artists, advertising, fashion, etc. moving toward a softer, more contextual feel of Contemporary design. Architecture will emulate this as our tastes adjust once again. Recent architecture elsewhere in this country and worldwide shows a trend toward a more Contemporary architecture.
